As I sit down to write this, I
almost don’t want to put words on paper because I know however carefully
I choose them, they will never be adequate or precise enough to describe
my experience with Myra at Hale Pule. However, I will do my best because
I feel what I have found is something many, if not most, people on a
"spiritual path" are seeking. I have found a true teacher.
I went to Maui to do yoga and to heal from a major surgery. I was
surprised that as serious as my "illness" was... it did not seem to be
Myra’s focus. Nor did I find that yoga was the primary "focus". Instead,
it was living a truly yogic lifestyle, from the moment you woke up until
the moment you went to sleep. That included being kind to your body and
soul on every level. All of Myra’s extensive talent for healing,
meditation, teaching yoga, philosophy, therapy, nutrition, food,
cooking... were bestowed upon us freely, abundantly, and most importantly, non- judgmentally. Until now, my experiences with"teachers"
had required some sort of loyalty... to a person, or a program or
a thought... but this was very different. I realized right away, that
Myra was not attached to the outcome- or to her own teachings. She
offers her wisdom lovingly, individually, and matter of factly, whether
we choose to accept it or not- Her goal is to give our power back to
ourselves.
I of course did accept everything that was offered … and in the process,
learned the meaning of ”healing on all levels". My body physically and
emotionally responded instantly, but the biggest shift, I realized on my
very last day, when to my surprise, I was not devastated to leave. I had
just had the most amazing month of my life and I wasn’t grasping on to
it. Because I knew this time I was given the tools to take home to NY
with me- and I can live the yogic life wherever I happen to be. That is
the true gift of Myra as a teacher. She "teaches" you how to access your
own truth- while you are there and once you leave. So for the first time
leaving a retreat, I wasn’t leaving a magical bubble in fear that the
moment the plane landed- it would burst- leaving me back at square one
again. This time it was truly integrated.
I believe that in this way, Myra is a modern day "guru". In the short
time I was there, I saw myself as well as eight other people,
transform... and then they were on their way. I feel blessed to have met Myra - and for that, I would like to share
this blessing with everyone I know. Namaste. ~ Dana in NY
Myra's knowledge
regarding nutrition, Ayurveda, and all aspects of Yoga are most admirable. She values her life and it has been a privilege
to learn from her. Ideally, everyone would take time each year to
reconnect with ourselves and the land. I feel lucky to have found such an amazing
teacher. ~ N. Alfers, Marin County California
I trust Myra. Myra
is the real deal. This is what makes a successful and beloved teacher.
One of my favorite quotes is from Gandhi. When asked to share something
inspirational about his life, he wrote on a slip of paper, "My life is
my message." For me, I observe that Myra practices Yoga on the mat and
off the mat in all of her affairs. My questions to Myra continue and she
continues to be accessible and supportive.” ~A. Allencastre, Maui |
